Newark man Emil Gruia sent to prison for 12 years for rape and sexual assault
A Newark man who raped and sexually assaulted women on separate occasions has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Emil Gruia had denied both offences but was convicted after a five-day trial.
He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday.
The 25-year-old, of Bowbridge Road, first attacked a woman as she walked home following a night out in Newark in February 2017, punching her to the floor and sexually assaulting her.
A month later, he carried out his second attack, befriending a woman in a Newark nightclub before coercing her into going down an alleyway with him and raping her.
As well as the prison sentence, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offender's Register indefinitely.
Detective Constable Helen Guttridge said: "Gruia is a dangerous sexual predator who showed no remorse towards his victims.
We're pleased with this strong sentence and hope that the victims can now move on from their ordeals.
" Sexual violence of any kind is not acceptable and we encourage people to report incidents to us so we can bring these offenders to justice."
