Two 18-year-olds charged over stabbing at Morrisons car park, Newark

Two teenagers have been charged, and appeared in court, over a supermarket car park stabbing.

The victim, a man aged in his 20s, was assaulted in the car park at Morrisons, on King’s Road, Newark, around 10.35pm on Monday (February 3).

He was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital with a stab wound which is not believed to be life-threatening.

Police arrested three suspects at addresses in Newark that night, and also recovered a knife.

Detectives have now charged Louis Macanally and Shaun Saunders, both aged 18 and of King's Road, Newark, with committing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

They appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (February 5) and were remanded in custody until March 5, 2025, when they are due to attend Nottingham Crown Court.

A third 18-year-old, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released on bail.

Detective Inspector James Oakton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Although incidents of this nature understandably cause concern in communities we believe this was an isolated incident.

“Our investigation has been robust and these two suspects have been placed before magistrates at the earliest opportunity.”
