Two in hospital after A1 crash

Two people were taken to hospital after a crash on the A1 this morning which caused long delays.

The accident happened at around 6.30am on the southbound carriageway between the Dry Doddington and Long Bennington junctions.

All three crews from Newark Fire Station were called out to cut two people from a car which had turned onto its roof.

Both southbound carriageways were closed, with one reopening at around 8am.

There were tailbacks on the southbound carriageway from the crash site to beyond Newark.
