Two Paralympians in New Year Honour's List triumph

Two Newark area 2012 Paralympians were among the winners in the Queen's New Year Honour's List.

Richard Whitehead, from Lowdham, receives an MBE for services to athletics.

Richard, who runs on blades, broke the world record and claimed gold in the T42 200m at London 2012.

Sophie Wells, of Harby, claimed gold and two silvers at the games.

She is given an MBE in recognition of services to equestrianism.

Newark-born equestrian Olympian Mary King, who at 51 was the oldest woman in Team GB, has been appointed MBE, also for services to equestrianism.
