Updated list of collection points set up in Newark and Sherwood for donations to help war-torn Ukraine
Donations to help the population of war-torn Ukraine and those fleeing its borders are being accepted at multiple pubs, shops and community centres across Newark and Sherwood.
Tesco Express in Balderton, The Bridge Community Centre in Newark, The Methodist Church in Hawtonville and Southwell pubs The Old Coach House and The Bramley Apple are among those taking donations.
Lisa Plummer, of the Bramley Apple, said: "Some people escaped with only the clothes on their back and we can give them something to keep them going.
"It will make them aware that people are thinking about them."
Collections at the Bramley close on Friday (March 4).
Southwell Town Council is also accepting donations at the Old Court House on the Burgage as is the Bridge Community Centre, Newark.
The Methodist Church in Hawtonville is accepting donations between 1pm-3pm and 7pm-8pm today (March 2). Further dates are yet to be announced.
A Newark woman rallied residents to check their wardrobes, cupboards and bathroom cabinets for unwanted items that could be sent to Ukraine.
Charlotte Ashley, of the Winthorpe Estate, collected essentials — clothing, dry food and toiletries — to send off to Poland to be distributed to families in need on the Ukrainian border.
Charlotte hoped to post the first care package yesterday, and was asking people to drop off their donations at the Bridge Community Centre on Lincoln Road.
Said Charlotte. "I've had loads of messages from people wanting to help.
"My friend will take the donations to Nottingham and they will then be taken to Poland where charities will help distribute to Ukrainian families.
"I just want to say thank you to the people of Newark for their support in doing this, it really is amazing."
Charlotte is hoping to organise more collections in the coming weeks as she has been inundated with people wanting to help.
Items such as shampoo, body wash/soap, sanitary products, clothing (children and baby) dry food (pasta, rice) baby formula, nappies, unwanted toys/teddies and blankets can all be donated.
