Confirmed coronavirus cases in Newark and Sherwood reaches 1,355 (Friday, October 23) as government Tier 3 talks for Nottinghamshire resume today




Thirty six new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Newark and Sherwood according to Public Health England, taking the total to 1,355.

Ashfield 1,526 (up 75) Bassetlaw 1,319 (up 55) Broxtowe 1,737 (up 63) Gedling 1,681 (up 75) Mansfield 1,035 (up 47) Newark and Sherwood 1,355 (up 36) Rushcliffe 1,794 (up 78) Nottingham 9,534 (up 244) Nottinghamshire 2,203 (up 429).

It comes as government Tier 3 talks for Nottinghamshire are due to resume at 12noon today.

County leader Kay Cutts and city leader David Mellen, as well as the chief executives, will discuss the possibility of upgrading some parts of Nottinghamshire into Tier 3 with government ministers.

It is believed leaders at Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe councils may also be involved in ongoing talks.

An email leaked on Wednesday appeared to suggest Newark and Sherwood would avoid being put into Tier 3, but Broxtowe, Gedling, Rushcliffe and the city would not.

According to the latest public data ­— 810,467 patients in the UK have tested positive and 44,347 people have died.
