Urged to turn left
A road sign will ask drivers to turn left, in a bid to cut long queues.
The bright yellow sign, said to be the first in the county, will be at the end of Long Lane, Farndon, where it joins the A46.
The county councillor covering Farndon, Mrs Sue Saddington, said she had been pressing Nottinghamshire County Council for 18 months.
The sign will read: “All traffic please turn left.”
Drivers are free to ignore it if they wish.
“I have been promised that the sign will be put up by the end of October and I will keep an eye on the situation to make sure it is,” Mrs Saddington said.
Originally, she asked for traffic lights at nearby Farndon crossroads, but the county council’s highways department said they were unnecessary because, in a survey, the maximum waiting time to turn right on a busy day was four minutes two seconds.
People wanting to turn right from Long Lane will be expected to drive to the Lord Ted roundabout and double back instead.
Mrs Saddington hopes the move will stop motorists dodging queues by cutting through a carpark at the end of Long Lane.
