Play park on Sherwood Avenue, Newark, closed by Newark and Sherwood District Council following vandalism
A play park has been closed after it was severely damaged by vandals.
Newark and Sherwood District Council has cordoned off the play equipment, on Sherwood Avenue, Newark, after it was vandalised.
It is the latest case of anti-social behaviour at the site over the last few weeks.
The council said: "This mindless vandalism is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Vandalising public property is illegal and has a huge negative impact on us all - residents and their young children should be able to enjoy play areas safely.
"Our team are surveying CCTV footage of the area and working with the police to investigate this incident. We encourage anyone who may have any useful information to identify the culprits to please come forward."
The play area will be taped off until further notice, while the council's team work to ensure the site is safe to use again.
Anyone who witnesses behaviour of this kind is encouraged to report it to the police on 119 or to the council on 01636 650 000.
