Vandals target cricket ground
The chairman of a cricket club is appealing for help in stamping out vandalism on its sports ground.
Mr Colin Lambert of Ransome and Marles Cricket Club in Newark said that although the cricket season had only started two weeks ago they were once again suffering from vandalism to its Elm Avenue ground.
On Saturday the police were called by staff at the social club because there was a large group of youths, both boys and girls, drinking and making a nuisance on the field.
Mr Lambert said they dispersed when the police came on to the ground but some time after midnight the cricket sight screens were tipped over and smashed. He said that they had only recently been repaired and painted ready for the new season.
"We are now left without any sight screens and the problem of trying to find funds to replace them," said Mr Lambert.
