Vehicle seized and fuel siphoning equipment found by Nottinghamshire Police after Operation Reacher patrols on A1 near Newark

Police have seized a vehicle in response to targeted thefts on lorries.

On Monday evening teams from Nottinghamshire Police based in Newark and Sherwood were carrying out proactive patrols along the A1 as part of Operation Reacher after lorries had been targeted by thieves for fuel or for the goods they carried.

They soon spotted an uninsured Subaru Forester travelling south bound along the A1 which undertook a dangerous manoeuvre in front of police.

The Forester failed to stop, before driving off road into a nearby field where it was soon abandoned.

Although officers were unable to detain the suspects due to bad weather in off-road conditions, the keys to the Forester were later located by the police canine unit and the vehicle was subsequently seized.

Thirteen containers and pipes for siphoning fuel were found in the rear of the Forester.
