Video: Newark hit by heavy rain and thunder

Heavy rain and thunder hit Newark earlier today, leaving the Market Place almost deserted.

Bar a few hardy market traders, the downpour forced shoppers and visitors under cover.

The rain was expected, after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning which told people in the East Midlands to anticipate thundery showers.

The warning also mentioned the possibility of surface flooding but, as yet, there have been no reports of this happening in the Advertiser area.

The yellow weather warning is in place until 9pm tonight.
