Village bus link starts

A bus service has started that connects Fernwood and other villages to Newark.

It uses Fernwood roads that have been adopted — Dale Way, Gilbert Way and Goldstraw Lane — after a previous service was withdrawn because it could not use unadopted routes.

The service, run by the Cotswold company, started on Monday. It runs three times a day, leaving Dale Way at 10am, noon and 2pm, going via Balderton, to Newark Northgate and Castlegate.

It then visits South Muskham, Little Carlton and Bathley, before returning to Fernwood.

Councillor Mrs Sue Saddington, who was instrumental in setting up the service, said: “It isn’t every hour but it is a good start and I know people will appreciate it.

“Like anything though, if it isn’t used it may well disappear so I would encourage people to use it to ensure it remains and, if it is well used, possibly even extended.”
