There were about 100 entries in a village dog show that raised more than £1,000 on Saturday.

The 15th Farndon Dog Show, at the 6th Newark Sea Scout headquarters in the village, featured 23 pedigree, cross breed and novelty classes and attracted dog owners from near and far.

The organiser, Miss Carol Murfin, of Marsh Lane, Farndon, said the money would go to Lincolnshire, Essex and Trent Boxer Rescue, which rehomes about 350 boxer dogs each year.

Another £200, also raised at the event, will be donated to Beaumond House Community Hospice, Newark, and just over £100 will go to the Sea Scouts.

Miss Murfin runs Farndon Dog Training Club and offers weekly obedience classes at the headquarters.

She said: “We get all sorts of dogs entered. It’s a fun day and it raises funds. It’s not a serious competition.”

Miss Murfin said the novelty classes, which included dog with the best head and expression and waggiest tail, were always the most popular.

Mrs Sharon Reed, of Harewood Avenue, Newark, first started competing in the show with her 11-year-old chocolate labrador, Kota, ten years ago.

She also has a four-year-old German wire haired pointer called Jasper.

Mrs Reed was there with her nieces, twins Darcy and Lara Smith (2) and her nephew, Joe Stanley (10).

She said: “We entered in the pedigree, fun and obstacle classes. Koto did really well in the obstacles. He comes to life then.”
