A Newark charity that helps children to deal with personal trauma has gained a place in the semi-finals of the National Lottery Awards. Public voting for the 70 organisations in the semi-finals to get through to the final begins today. (Monday)

Sue’s Place, the Newark and Nottinghamshire Child Bereavement and Loss Centre, is one of ten projects across the country in the voluntary/charity section of the semi-finals of the awards. They were given nearly £1/2m by the National Lottery in 2007.

The National Lottery Awards are an annual search to find the UK’s favourite lottery-funded projects. A total of £25m is raised for good causes by lottery players each week.

There are a total of 70 projects in the awards this year, across the seven categories. The winner of each category will receive £2,000 cash prize for their project.

Public voting for the semi-finals begins today and will end at noon on July 10. To register a vote for Sue’s Place, call 0844 6862896 or visit www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards
