Southwell u3a walking group members make the most of the great outdoors

A walking group has spent a week away enjoying the Lake District's impressive countryside.

Twelve members of Southwell u3a's walking group spent a week based in Keswick, getting to grips with the Lake District’s Northern Fells.

The weather was kind to the walkers, with blue skies, clear mountain tops and no rain.

As well as tackling three Wainwright summits, they enjoyed other wonderful sights, including the beautiful Borrowdale Valley, Derwentwater, Keswick, Ullswater and Aira Force waterfalls.

The u3a branch also offers walking groups for a range of abilities — from four mile walks to 12 mile treks.

The Short Walks group covers 4 to 5 miles once a month, with the aim of getting some exercise in a social environment. Members can appreciate the countryside in all seasons and explore both familiar and new areas.

The Medium Walks group walks six to seven-and-a-half miles, ending with a pub lunch together.

Up to 12 miles can be covered in around five hours by members of the Longer Walks group, which is best suited to experienced walkers. The walks take place in and around the beautiful countryside of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire.
