Nine well-known Newark business people and community figures are facing arrest — and they want your help to break out of jail.

But it’s not a criminal conspiracy — the only thing you’ll be aiding and abetting is charity.

The group will be arrested in a swoop at the Christmas lights switch-on in Newark Market Place on November 25.

They will be thrown into the cells at the old Newark Police Station, and will be released only when a set amount of bail is raised.

Those taking part are setting their own bail amounts, and people will be able to donate to keep them in jail or let them out.

The money raised will go to the newly launched Newark and Sherwood Children’s Charities Group, comprising Counselling and Support for Young People (CASY), Think Children, Home-Start Newark and Newark and Notts Child Bereavement and Loss Centre, better known as Sue’s Place.

There will be collection boxes in the Fox and Crown on Appletongate and at a special market stall.

Each participant has a Just Giving page, which will be updated with details of crimes and bail, and donations can also be made by texting PBPC49£ plus the amount (e.g. PBPC49£5) to 70070.
