Nottinghamshire Police warn of potential traffic disruption as Tour of Britain cycle race comes to county

Police are warning of potential traffic disruption as Britain’s biggest cycling race, the Tour of Britain, returns to Nottinghamshire on Thursday.

The fifth stage will start in West Bridgford and pass through a host of towns and villages, including many in Southwell, Radcliffe and Edwinstowe, before finishing in Mansfield.

Nottinghamshire Police aims to keep traffic delays at a minimum to reduce disruption as riders pass through.

“We are recommending for drivers to leave themselves plenty of time for their journeys on Thursday and to set off earlier to minimise disruption.” said Chief Inspector Jon Foy, of Nottinghamshire Police.

“Anyone driving to and from spectating points should also allow plenty of travel time if they are moving to different locations and, where possible, spectators should park well away from the route.”

Riders will tackle the 116-mile route, setting off from Central Avenue in West Bridgford at 10.45am.

Organiser have released the timings they expect the cyclists to pass through the various towns and villages.

People are being urged to line the route, and create land art, to encourage the elite cyclists as the pass.

The Tour of Britain is being televised on ITV4 and by Eurosport and the Global Cycling Network around the world.
