Westminster attack: Robert Jenrick pays tribute to fallen policeman
Newark MP Robert Jenrick has paid tribute to a policeman who lost his life during the attack at Westminster.
The policeman died after being stabbed outside the Houses of Parliament this afternoon.
An attacker drove a car into people walking on Westminster Bridge before crashing the vehicle. He then stabbed the policeman before being shot and killed by armed police.
The Metropolitan Police were called at 2.40pm.
In total, five people died and at least a further 40 were injured.
Mr Jenrick, posting on his Facebook page just before 9.30pm this evening, said: "I left Parliament an hour ago, having spent several hours in the House of Commons chamber as events unfolded outside. As I walked out into the night, there were no words which seemed good enough to thank the police officers, security services and staff of the House.
"My thoughts are with the victims and their families and the brave policeman who died defending Parliament in the line of duty. We went home tonight safely, because of him. God bless him and all those who died or were injured today as a result of this sick and depraved act.
"As the Prime Minister said this evening, we must all move forward together, must not be afraid or cowed by events, never give in to terror and never allow the voices of hate and evil to drive us apart.
"I will be in Parliament in the morning. Live life normally tomorrow."
