Newark woman rallies residents for donations to send to Ukraine
A Newark woman is rallying residents to check their wardrobes, cupboards and bathroom cabinets for unwanted items that could be sent to Ukraine.
Charlotte Ashley, of the Winthorpe Estate, is collecting essentials — clothing, dry food and toiletries — to send off to Poland to be distributed to families in need on the Ukrainian border.
Charlotte hopes to post the first care package on Wednesday, so is asking people to drop off their donations at the Bridge Community Centre on Lincoln Road today until 9pm.
"It really is taking off already," said Charlotte. "I've had loads of messages from people wanting to help.
"My friend will take the donations to Nottingham and they will then be taken to Poland where charities will help distribute to Ukrainian families.
"I just want to say thank you to the people of Newark for their support in doing this, it really is amazing."
Charlotte is hoping to organise more collections in the coming weeks as she has been inundated with people wanting to help.
If you have any of the following items, drop them off in a bag at the Bridge Community Centre, Lincoln Road, NG24 2DQ, before 9pm:
- Shampoo
- Body wash/soap
- Sanitary products
- Clothing (children and baby)
- Dry food (pasta, rice)
- Baby formula
- Nappies
- Unwanted toys/teddies
