The Newark Advertiser found out where would people want to remarry if they had the chance?

As Newark Town Council is working on plans to furnish the hall’s Pickin Room as a bridal suite, in its weekly voxpop, the Advertiser found out where people got married and where they would like to remarry if they had the chance to.

From weddings abroad to Newark’s parish church, the answers were endless and despite a lot of the people that we spoke to not being married or being divorced, love and the idea of marriage weren’t out of everyone’s mind.

Carolyn Marshall said that she wouldn’t pick the same place again as she got married in St Laurence Church in Mansfield to please their parents.

“I would like to get married somewhere nice like Scotland, plus there you have the option to get married anywhere you want to while in England you need to get married somewhere which is registered.”

Peter and Anne Johnson said: “54 years ago we got married in the register office and if we were to get married again we would still pick Newark.

“It was what we could afford at the time, but this time we would probably get married at the church.”

Jane Apps, who got married at St Leonard’s Church on Lincoln Road, Newark and said that she would still pick the same place as it was ‘lovely there’.

On the other hand, David Thompson said he would go away to Tenerife as he enjoys the country and every time he has been it was ‘nice and warm’.

Marrying abroad can sometimes not only provide better weather conditions but also cheaper prices and different experiences, which is why it is a growing option for couples.

Barry Gillard said: “I got married at Newark Parish Church and if I were to remarry I would do it out of Britain because everything is expensive here and it is cheaper in the continent.”

Stephanie Marshall said she would like to go on holiday somewhere warm.

Kim Harper said she would like to travel for her wedding. She added: “I would like to get married in the Maldives because it is beautiful and it is sinking so I would like it to see before it disappears.”

Beverley McCabe, of Stalybridge, said she would like to get married in her hometown as it is easy and would be quieter.

Her partner, Shaun Walker said: “I would probably pick somewhere a bit more glamorous, probably in Biarritz.”

Although a lot of people want to see the sun and the sky on their wedding day, a lot of the people we spoke to got married in Newark and would still pick the market town for their special day.

Tamsin Bradley said: “I am involved with St Mary Magdalene church and if I was to get married I would like it to be there.

“It is the most beautiful building in Newark and because I am a Christian so, I would like to do it in the sight of god and all of my friends.”

“I got married at Newark’s registry office and if I was to get married again it would be anywhere else, but it would depend on how much money you have available,” Linda Hennell added:

“You can only do what you can afford to do.”

If you had the chance to pick anywhere in the world to get married where would you go? And why?
