The wife of an airman who died after his helicopter crashed will be among those presented with the Elizabeth Cross today.

The award is given to relatives of members of the Armed Forces killed in action since the second world war.

Flight Lieutenant Arthur Dodson died on May 4, 1963, while taking part in an operation in the area of the Intrusan Valley in Sarawak, Borneo.

The aircraft suffered a mechanical failure, causing it to become out of control and crash.

All nine on board were killed.

They were later buried at the scene of the accident by the search and rescue team that found the crash site.

In recognition of his sacrifice, Mrs Mary Dodson, of Radcliffe, will receive the award and memorial scroll at the ceremony at County Hall, West Bridgford.

Flight Lieutenant Dodson’s son, Flight Lieutenant Greg Dodson, who is retired, will be presented with an additional memorial scroll.
