A woman was airlifted to hospital after an accident near an entrance to Newark Showground yesterday evening.

Two cars were involved in the accident near the Drove Lane turn-off on the A17.

Firefighters from Newark and Collingham were called at 5.15pm.

A woman with suspected spinal injuries was cut out of a car and then airlifted to the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham.

Six people had already got out of the cars before the fire service arrived and were taken by ambulance to Lincoln County Hospital.

The accident caused delays for people leaving the Newark and Nottinghamshire Show.
