Nottinghamshire Police arrest woman and issue appeal for unknown male after e-scooter taken at knifepoint near Sherwood Avenue Park, Newark
A 35-year-old woman has been arrested after a vulnerable man was forced to hand over cash and an e-scooter at knifepoint while riding through Newark.
The victim told Nottinghamshire Police he’d been approached by a man and a woman in Barnbygate before being threatened with a small kitchen knife and forced to hand over his scooter and cash near Sherwood Avenue Park around 8pm on Tuesday (8 April).
Officers conducted an area search and spotted a woman matching the description of one of the suspects in nearby Beacon Hill Road, who was found to have a screwdriver and wire cutters in her possession.
The 35-year-old woman was subsequently arrested on suspicion of robbery and going equipped for theft.
Police inquiries are still ongoing to locate the stolen e-scooter, as well as an unknown man reportedly involved in the incident.
The suspect has been described as white, around 5ft 9ins tall, and aged in his mid-30s, while he had black scruffy hair and a black beard.
He was also reportedly wearing a short black coat and grey jeans.
Detective Sergeant James Hirst, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This will have no doubt been a scary experience for the victim, so I’d like to thank him for speaking to us and assisting our investigation.
“Officers were able to stop and detain a suspect within minutes of this report coming in, although we’ve unfortunately not yet been able to return the victim’s items to them.
“Inquiries are also still ongoing to try and locate someone else we believe was involved.
“Robbery is an incredibly serious offence, especially when a weapon is involved, so I want to reassure people that a lot of work is currently going on to track down whoever was responsible.
“Bearing this in mind, we’d ask anyone who witnessed what happened, or has any other information that could help our investigation, to please get in touch.”
