Woman recovered from Cromwell Lock pronounced dead after emergency services rush to scene




A woman in a river rescue has died despite the best efforts of the emergency services.

Newark firefighters and many others, along with specialist water rescue units, rushed to reports of concerns for a woman's safety at Cromwell Lock at around 2.15pm on Sunday.

Police and ambulance colleagues also attended the incident.

A woman was recovered from the water but was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman's next of kin have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Detective Sergeant Andrea Brown, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Our thoughts are with the woman's family at this sad time."

A spokesman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 2.17pm on February 27 to the River Trent near South Collingham. The caller reported a medical emergency.

"We sent two paramedics in fast response cars and a double-crewed ambulance. The air ambulance was also in attendance.”
