Woman pillion passenger dies in motorcycle crash; rider seriously hurt
A woman died following a collision in the Collingham area at the weekend.
The incident happened just after 5pm yesterday (Sunday 27 May 2012) on the A1133 near to its junction with the A46.
The deceased woman was the pillion passenger of a motorbike that collided with a caravan on the A1133. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 43-year-old rider of the bike was air-lifted to the Queen’s Medical Centre with serious injuries. He remains in a serious condition in hospital.
No one else was injured.
The A113 was closed between Collingham and the A46 while police conducted their enquiries and the scene was cleared. It was re-opened at around 1am today.
It is believed that the motorcycle in question was part of a larger group of motorcycles travelling from the Gainsborough area, through Collingham and towards Newark, when the collision occurred.
