The Workhouse in Southwell secures £8,000 in jubilee funding for art experience
Southwell Workhouse and Infirmary and Southwell Tourism Partnership have been awarded £8,000 for jubilee celebrations.
Arts Council England and UK Community Foundations announced £390,764 in funding for 60 voluntary and community organisations across the East Midlands, to put creativity at the heart of their celebrations for the jubilee.
Jan Overfield Shaw, programme and partnership officer for National Trust at the workhouse and infirmary, said: “We are thrilled to have been successful in our joint bid to the Arts Council’s Lets Create Jubilee in partnership with Southwell Tourism Partnership: Platinum Jubilee Group.
“The pandemic has had a significant impact on the Southwell community as an older population. To ensure the most vulnerable are at the heart of the co-creation and that their sense of celebration is expressed, we are working with City Arts from Nottingham, who are helping us identify artists who can create a wonderful art experience and involve the most vulnerable in our community and celebrate this moment in history.”
The Let’s Create Jubilee Fund will ensure that thousands of people from communities all across England will have the opportunity to take part in exciting creative events — all in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee.
From puppetry and story creation, through to making crowns, carnival and art trails, there will be a huge range of activities.
It was made possible thanks to National Lottery players and administered by UK Community Foundations.
Peter Knott, area director at Arts Council England, said: “We’re delighted to be investing £390,764 into the East Midlands, which will bring people together to celebrate and honour Her Majesty the Queen’s achievements over the last 70 years.”
