Newark: Works on Farndon Road set to close for three weeks to benefit drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, says National Highways

Roadworks on a major Newark road set to close for three weeks will benefit drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, says National Highways.

Work has already started to improve the access onto the A46 dual carriageway at Farndon.

The B6166 Farndon Road is being widened on the approach to the roundabout and will include a new crossing point for pedestrians and cyclists.

Many of the works are being undertaken through narrow lanes, enabling Farndon Road to stay open, and with overnight closures.

However, to ensure the safety of both workers and road users, the road will need to be closed for three weeks while extensive works are carried out to the main carriageway. This includes putting in new kerbing, drainage and footpaths.

The road will be closed in both directions between Farndon roundabout and the Lord Ted pub from Monday, November 1, to Sunday, November 21.

A clearly-signed diversion route will be in place, agreed with the local authority. Access to the properties and businesses on Farndon Road where the work is being carried out will be maintained.

National Highways project manager Jan Griffiths said: “We only close roads when absolutely necessary as we appreciate they can be disruptive for people.

"By closing Farndon Road for three weeks we will not only be protecting our workers but will also reduce the weeks of overnight closures needed, finishing the scheme much sooner.

“Every effort is being taken to minimise disturbance during these works and we are grateful to people for their patience while we complete this scheme, which will ultimately mean smoother and safer journeys for all who use the roundabout.”

The work is expected to be completed by March 2022.
