Budding authors are being encouraged to get their creative juices flowing at a new writing group.

People can try their hand at writing short stories and poetry at Bingham Writing Group.

The group was launched by Mrs Hilda Smith, of Abbey Road, a former member of Lowdham Writers’ Group.

Members take part in 15-minute writing exercises before getting feedback from the rest of the group.

Mrs Smith said: “There seems to be a call for it in Bingham.

“I thought nobody else is doing it so I may as well give it a go, and there was a good response.”

Members can also try writing exercises at home and bring them in for discussion.

“I send out all sorts of notes on plot, setting, dialogue and circumstance, we have a go at writing a story and then we discuss it during the second part of the session,” said Mrs Smith.

“It is very good, and on the basis of these stories, often they come up with longer short stories.

“We usually set exercises for people to think about at home and bring in for the next session.”

Mrs Smith said some of the longer short stories could be published in an anthology.

“It’s been very good so far, we have had more people ringing in saying they would like to join,” she said.

“Everybody thinks they have got a book in them but sometimes you just need other writers to give you an impetus.”

The group meets at the Long Acre Studios on the first Tuesday of the month from 2pm to 4pm.
