The Newark YMCA is opening its doors for a family fun day




A family fun day takes place at the YMCA Community and Activity Village in Newark on Saturday to give residents a taste of the new facilities on offer.

The event takes place from 11am to 3pm at the village, off Bowbridge Road, and is free to attend.

Todd Cauthorn, executive director at YMCA Newark and Sherwood, said: “We are incredibly excited to welcome families to YMCA Community and Activity Village and we can’t wait to show people all the amazing facilities that the site has to offer.

“We have planned a day packed full of entertainment for people of all ages, so it is sure to be a fun day out for the whole family.

“The event is also our opportunity to thank all the people who have worked so hard on the project, and to show the community the fantastic results of all their efforts.

“We hope the fun day will be the first of many visits to the village, which has been designed with the community in mind.”

Guided tours of the facilities will take place at at 11am, 1pm and 2pm.

Throughout the day, there will be live entertainment from Tony Roberts and Vicky Cozens from Radio Newark.

There will also be performances from cover band Flipside and DJ sets by Tony Jones, plus interactive music sessions from Pure Steel.

Three times Crufts winner Nicci Hindson and her dog Rory will give heelwork to music demonstrations.

In addition, there will be artisan food stalls and free children’s entertainment and activities.

These include Camp Williams Team activities, such as soft archery and the GaGa pit.

And You Can Do Sport Academy will host football, rowing, rugby and boxing skills

YMCA will also host a series of VIP tours of the site in the weeks leading up to its official opening, as a way to thank partners, sponsors and people who have contributed to its creation.

The YMCA Community and Activity Village already offers athletics, multi-purpose courts, outdoor fitness and football facilities.

It will also provide nursery facilities, educational, indoor fitness, business and community space inside its purpose-built centre on the site.
