Young mum who assisted boyfriend in dealing cannabis avoids jail at Lincoln Crown Court

A young mother who turned her life around after helping her boyfriend to deal cannabis was given a suspended jail sentence.

Ellie Carr, 26, who was living in Wellingore, and her partner Callum Robinson, 31, came to the attention of police after their Audi A3 was stopped behind a lorry in Heckington, near Sleaford, on November 4, 2020.

Lincoln Crown Court heard Robinson was driving and officers recovered two packages of cannabis weighing 700 grams and 900 grams.

Police also seized £270 in cash from the vehicle and a mobile phone belonging to Robinson, the court was told.

The couple again came to the attention of police on May 1, 2021, when they were notified about the same Audi A3 being in the Navenby area.

On that occasion officers again recovered eight bags of cannabis and £1,875 in cash.

Carr, formerly of The Spurr, Wellingore, but now of Ferryside, Fiskerton, admitted the supply of cannabis between May and October, 2020, and two charges of possessing a Class B drug with intent to supply on 4 November, 2020, and 1 May, 2021.

The court herald Robinson, of St Catherine's, Lincoln, has gone missing and is still wanted by the police.

Michael Cranmer-Brown, mitigating, said Carr had played very much a subordinate role driving her former boyfriend around.

"His phone was riddled with messages," Mr Cranmer-Brown told the court.

"There were no dealing messages at all on her phone according to the police analyst."

Mr Cranmer-Brown added: "She has changed her life around. Were she to be given a chance there is every chance to believe she would make the most of it."

Passing sentence Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight said she accepted Carr had turned her life around with the birth of a young daughter and had played a secondary role to Robinson.

"These offences are two years ago. Since then you gave turned your life around,” said the judge.

"I am pleased to see you have moved to live with your aunt and hope to move to independent living.

"You want to re-do your maths and english GCSEs, and are no longer with Mr Robinson."

Carr was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment suspended for two years and must also complete 30 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days.
