Popular Music for Market recital at Newark Parish Church series sees array of young talents performing.

Newark Parish Church's popular Music for Market recital series saw an array of young talents performing.

This series of classical music concerts runs through the summer, featuring a wide variety of performers, many of whom are professional musicians.

The Saturday recital was particularly special as it featured nine talented youngsters exhibiting the fruits of their hard work.

The concert featured several pianists as well as Daisy Wyatt, who made a beautiful sound on the cornet playing the beguiling Salm o Dewi Sant by Karl Jenkins.

The Magnus Scholars of the church, were represented by Amy Reed, whose warm tone delivered the operatic aria Ah, Belinda from Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Elora Brailsford, who displayed virtuosic coloratura in her performance of an extract from Handel’s Messiah.

The church’s director of music, Dr Stephen Bullamore, said: “There are some fantastic young musicians in Newark and it was terrific to give them the opportunity to perform to a receptive audience in this beautiful surroundings. Performing to this level takes time, patience and support, as well as talent, and it was wonderful to see such commitment on display.”

The Music for Market series continues on Saturdays at noon until mid-September.

Through the Magnus Foundation, the church can offer funding of up to £1,000 a year for young musicians who sing in the choir.

There are three Magnus Scholarships available in September, for young people in years 9 and above in full time education. There are four chorister places available in September for younger children wishing to join the choir and start their musical journey.
