Young Wellow House pupils shine at Wolfit drama festival

A school’s drama and speech pupils have taken first place in their categories at a prestigious festival.

Chloe, Edward, and Matilda, of Wellow House, represented the school at the 24th Wolfit Singing, Speech, and Drama Festival in Newark, proving their “talent and determination” to bring home first place awards.

Accompanied by the school’s head of drama Mrs Bambridge, the students were said to have showcased their impressive skills and left a lasting impact on the festival's adjudicators.

Mrs Bambridge said: “We are incredibly proud of Chloe, Edward, and Matilda for their outstanding achievements. Their dedication and hard work are truly inspiring, and it’s wonderful to see their talents recognised.”

Chloe, Edward, and Matilda represented the school with “exceptional poise and enthusiasm” and impressed adjudicators while also earning valuable praise and guidance.

Chloe took home a first-place trophy in the dramatic solo category for year four, Edward claimed first place in the up to year four division of the verse speaking category, and Matilda won the verse speaking category for up to year five.

The festival, this year at Highfields School, is held in memory of Sir Donald Wolfit who lived in Balderton and attended The Magnus School before becoming a celebrated Shakespearean actor and manager.
