Youngster’s first for sleepwalk
A little girl will be leading the way at the first sleepwalk event in aid of Newark’s Beaumond House Community Hospice.
Emily Pegg (7) of Cranmer Road, who is already an active supporter of the hospice, is the first to sign up for the one-mile walk, which participants will complete while wearing their pyjamas and carrying torches and glowsticks.
The event is at Newark Showground, on Saturday, October 11, which is world hospice day. Participants should arrive at about 6.30pm to start at 7pm.
Emily attends Bowbridge Primary School, Newark, and won a medal in the Advertiser’s Children Of Courage awards for her fundraising efforts.
She was asked to wear the number one sign because she raised more than £500 for the hospice last year by completing 200 bounces on her trampoline.
Emily wanted to do something for the hospice after her great-grandfather, Mr Stanley Beevers, of Wolsey Road, Newark, died there last summer, aged 85.
When Emily and her brother, Ben (4) visited their great-grandfather, the hospice staff gave them treats and so the youngsters wanted to give something back.
Her mother, Mrs Sam Pegg, said Emily wanted to raise more money for the hospice this year and this was a great event for all the family to get involved with.
She said: “It is quite a special fundraiser for us and we are more than happy to go along.”
Emily was excited to be taking part in the walk, which she will complete with her teddy bear, Kelsey, in her Bratz pyjamas, slippers and dressing gown.
Emily’s parents, Mr and Mrs Stephen Pegg, and her brother will take part, as will her aunt, uncle, cousins and grandparents.
They are Mr and Mrs Graeme Tilford, of Nicholson Street, Newark, and their children Ryan (4) and Ruby (2) and Mr and Mrs Geoff Pegg, of Caunton.
The fundraising co-ordinator at the hospice, Mrs Linda Hunt, said they were hoping for about 2,000 people.
Entry is £10 for 16s-and-over, £5 for under-16s and £20 for a family of two adults and two children. People can be sponsored to raise even more.
