Boy, 17, arrested after leaving 70-year-old woman with minor injuries near Newark's Asda superstore in Lombard Street




Police have arrested a 17-year old boy after a 70-year old woman was left with minor injuries, following an attempted robbery in Newark yesterday (Thursday, September 19).

Nottinghamshire Police were called just before 10.30am to the report of the incident near to the Asda superstore in Lombard Street, Newark.

Officers were on-the-scene within three minutes to begin their enquiries and offer support to the victim, who was left shaken and with minor injuries following the incident. No items were stolen during the incident.

Later that day, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He remains in police custody today.

Inspector Heather Sutton, the neighbourhood policing inspector for Newark, said: “Newark is generally a very safe place to live, work and visit and I hope that our officers’ quick response to this incident offers some reassurance that, where incidents of this nature do occur, we will respond appropriately.

“While our investigations remains at an early stage, we have made one arrest – which is a positive first step – and our efforts will now focus on understanding the circumstances surrounding this incident and continuing to support the victim in this case.”
