Carl Greaves to host boxing show at Newark Showground with Emma Dolan taking on two-time world title challenger Halima Vunjabei for vacant Commonwealth title

The upcoming Newark boxing show on March 25 at the Newark Showground will be special for several reasons.

Firstly, it is Carl Greaves’ 150th show, a huge milestone that many promoters do not achieve in today’s current economic climate.

Secondly, the show will make history as it showcases the first-ever female super flyweight Commonwealth title fight.

The bout will headline an epic night of boxing action and sees Greaves-trained fighter Emma Dolan take on Tanzanian fighter and former two-time world title challenger Halima Vunjabei.

Vunjabei is a tough boxer who has fought all over the world, winning 11 bouts — seven by knockout.

Dolan moved from Norwich to Newark several months ago to train under Carl Greaves.

“I am over the moon to say I’ll be boxing for the Commonwealth title on March 25 in Newark on a packed card,” said Dolan.

“It will be a tough test for me but one I’m sure I can overcome.

“I’d like to give a big thanks to my trainer and manager Carl Greaves for securing this opportunity for me.”

In her last bout Vunjabei achieved a knockout victoy over Zawadi Kutaka .

It is the first time the title is being contested and it will be fought in Newark.

Greaves said he was looking forward to marking the milestone where it all started.

“My 150th show is coming up on March 25 and it’s going to be in my hometown of Newark,” said Greaves.

“I am excited to bring the show to the Lady Eastwood Pavilion at the Newark Showground as we have had a number of them there previously.”

The event will also feature an action-packed undercard including undefeated Newark fighters Tom Cowling and Olly Marple.

Newark favourite Cowling will be taking on Jake Bray in what will be his tenth professional fight.

Carl Greaves promoted fighters Tom Pogson, James Richardson, Jamie Behan, and Connor Meanwell will also be boxing.

Barney Stretton, Harvey Eldo, and Shaydon Walmsley will all make their professional debuts on the card.

Doors will open at 5pm with the first bell rung at six.

Tickets are still available from the Carl Greaves Promotions website or the boxers themselves.

Newark-based boxer Stanley Stannard will be on the bill for the March 11 Leicester show at Athena as he looks to extend his ten-fight undefeated record.

The plan is for him to then face highly-rated Lee Cutler in an English title eliminator on Sky Sports.

Cutler currently has a 17 and one record, and Greaves believes that he will be a good challenge for his fighter. Greaves’ trained and Newark based fighter Kyle Haywood will headline the event with a much-anticipated rematch against Ryan Amos after the pair drew in their last bout.
