Fun day at Suggy's gym celebrates 20 years in town and thanks the community for their support
DOZENS of visitors walked through the doors of Suggy’s Gym for a few hours of fun to celebrate 20 years of the gym being at Castlegate.
Saturday’s Fun Day was part of the celebrations of Newark Amateur Boxing Club’s 20th anniversary, which has also seen children aged five to 12 enjoying four weeks of free boxing sessions recently.
The gym said that the feedback had been overwhelmingly positiveand a lot of fun had been had by those who attended.
“We knew from the response we had to all the posts on our social media pages that there was a lot of interest in our fun day and were expecting a pretty good turnout,” said Suggy’s Gym head coach Dean Sugden.
“But from the moment we opened the doors on Castlegate at noon till the last visitors reluctantly left the gym at 4 pm, it was non-stop action and, as you can see from the photos, a fantastic time was had by all.
“From coaches and current clients to first-time visitors of all ages and abilities, everyone shared in the fun.
“It was great to welcome them to the event, especially the kids, and I’ve no doubt we’ll be seeing many of them regularly very soon when they sign up for classes and courses here at Suggy’s Gym.
“When we opened our doors on Castlegate over 20 years ago, we were determined to create a can-do, all-inclusive environment representing all parts of our local community, something our whole coaching team is passionate about,” said Dean.
“Over the years, our 4,000 square feet centre of excellence has produced many champions at the national level and several of our young amateurs have represented their country, coming home to Newark with medals after competing in European and Tri Nations Championships.
“Right now, we’re looking forward to our next Home Show, which will see many of those youngsters walking back out into the ring at Farndon Memorial Hall on Friday 9 December.
“With three Level 2 coaches and three Level 1 coaches, alongside Bailey Sugden and Jade Grierson, I do not doubt that the future is bright as they continue their journey.
“Watching so many of them holding pads and helping out on Saturday was definitely the highlight of my day and something I’ll remember for a long time to come.
“And of course, it goes without saying that I want to thank everyone who helped to make the Fun Day such a successful event, from the Sugden team of Karen, Chad, and Bailey to coaches Irvine Taylor and Jade Grierson, and all the sponsors who support the young amateurs representing NABC both at home and away.”
