Captain Harry Atkinson believes Newark R&M can push on from their promotion success last season to make an impact in South Notts League Division D.
With the start of the season a few weeks away, the club is one of several in the region making final preparations ahead of the new campaign.
Newark R&M 1sts emphatically gained promotion from Division E last season after winning 16 of their 18 league matches
Atkinson said poor weather meant preparations had not been ideal, but they were ready to push on this season.
“Most of our training has been indoors over the winter,” he said.
“We would normally look to have been outside a few weeks ago, but it has just been too wet.
“It is not ideal, but we have done some good work indoors and we might have to continue that before the season starts.
“We are pretty much the same team as last year.
“There are a few new faces, including people who have moved to the area, but you can never be sure at this stage which team they will fit into.
“Charlie Hauton is coming back after an operation — getting him back is like getting a new player.
“Last season Peter Litchfield was prolific for the second team.
“He is able to commit more time so should come into the firsts, where the squad is very strong.”
Atkinson was hopeful the first-team would continue to build momentum after the up-turn in fortunes at the club.
“When you are as dominant in the league as we were last season, you want to continue in the same manner.,” he said.
“Even though we have gone up a level, we should still aim to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
“I do not want to say I think we will win it, but we can be confident of doing well this season.
“Everyone is competitive within the club but we all get along very well, which makes life a lot easier.”
The first team are due to start their season on April 28 at home against West Bridgford Legion 1sts
