A busy period of hockey sees mixed results for Newark and South Nottinghamshire clubs




A BUSY period of hockey saw the Newark men's 1st team go down 1-0 to a strong Belper side while the Newark ladies' 1st's went down 6-0 to Boots.

The Newark ladie's 2nds went down 1-0 but were unlucky not to win the fixture away at Manning as all 11 players worked incredibly hard.

The well-drilled Manning team managed to pip Newark with a single goal as the player of the match was awarded to Lyndsey Sayer.

A win to the ladie's 3rd's saw Newark defeat Worksop 3-2 with great runs from Neve Littlewood and Caroline Ainsworth which resulted in Littlewood getting the first goal.

Loren Venables held the defence to stop attacks from Worksop, however, a quick ball equalised the score line.

Newark again scored but Worksop followed it up with another goal to equalise 2-2 at half-time.

A determined Newark got the third goal in the second-half to see out the victory.

The ladies' 4th's development team took on North Nottinghamshire, coming away with a 2-0 win.

The first goal was scored by Emily Parczuk who deftly slotted away a pass across the defence.

Ann Crockett-McLean scored the second, slipping the ball between the goalkeeper and the post.

The team performance and passing play was extremely good with Emma Hogg and Lois Knox having especially strong games.

The Newark men's 2nd's suffered a narrow defeat to Boots, going down 3-2 in a thrilling encounter away.

Simon Chambers was voted for Man of the Match for his heroics between the posts.

The game was a tight contest that saw the Newark side leave the pitch with their heads held high.

The team said they are determined to get their first victory of the season soon.

The Newark men's 3rd's had a trying time in West Bridgford as they lost 9-3 in a tough match.

Newark scored in the first few minutes with Craig Joynes scoring the initial goal.

West Bridgford then equalised before Jayden Timmermans found the net for the visitors.

Arthur Quinn in goal made some good saves for Newark but rebounds were a constant thorn in the Newark defence's side.

As the game progressed, West Bridgford gradually piled more goals on the board as the victory ran away from Newark.

The South Nottinghamshire men's 2nd team hosted Barton at home in Bingham winning 2-0.

The game began with Barton immediately on the attack as they overloaded the midfield and created several good chances.

James Bellamy hit his debut goal to put South Nottinghamshire up 1-0.

This was followed quickly by Thomas Brackenbury who cooly and calmly extended the lead to 2-0.

The team's youngsters held firm against Barton’s powerful counter-attacks and showed considerable backbone to hold on to a 2-0 lead. The man of the match was awarded to Finn Collins, with Toby Clough also putting in a notable performance.

The team now sits second in the league table, after a fine start to the season.

The South Nottinghamshire Men's 3rd's won decisively over Barton with a 5-1 final score.

After being down 5-0, Barton managed a consolation goal in the final stages of the game.

The men's 4th's lost narrowly to West Bridgford in a 3-2 scoreline.

West Bridgford were lucky to hold the advantage after the South Nottinghamshire team fought back vigilantly, falling just short of a draw.

The ladies' XI from South Nottinghamshire won 4-0 as Caroline Brackenbury achieved her hat-trick.

The side went into the half-time break up 2-0.

Gemma Robinson and Samantha Marwick kept lurking unmarked and were a constant danger to the Players team.

Marwick scored the other goal in the second-half as her persistence paid off.

The South Nottinghamshire side left the pitch delighted with the result.
