Commonwealth boxing champion Emma Dolan and her trainer Carl Greaves attend Newark and Sherwood United Football Club to celebrate sponsorship deal

Two sporting groups across the district are collaborating and they hope their efforts will pay off with mutual success.

Boxing trainer Carl Greaves and his Commonwealth Champion fighter Emma Dolan were at the Newark and Sherwood United Football Club mid-week to watch the side draw with league leaders Sherwood Colliery.

The pair spoke at half-time and entertained the more than 200 people in attendance.

"We would like to thank The Highwaymen for the invite to the game on Tuesday evening," said boxing trainer Carl Greaves.

"The club has kindly come on board as the main sponsors for Emma's upcoming Commonwealth title defence in Sheffield on October 6."

"As chairman of Newark and Sherwood United Football Club, I am keen that as a club we support other ambitious sports people in the town," said Steff Wright.

"Having watched Emma win her Commonwealth title in Newark earlier this year we are proud to be sponsoring her in her upcoming title defence at the Sheffield arena.

"Emma is a dedicated sportsperson working hard to achieve her dreams with fantastic support from Carl Greaves and his team."

Dolan will take on Worksop's Nicola Hopewell in her first title defence of the belt.
