Running clubs from across Newark, Nottinghamshire gather for an all clubs run on the Newark half-marathon route

Wet conditions did not deter a dedicated group of over 40 runners from the community turning out to compete in the all-clubs run.

The event took place on Sunday, February 18 and followed the Newark half-marathon route.

The race departed from Sconce Park in Newark and took off after the weekly parkrun event.

It may be the last time the course is used for some time as Hawton Road, an integral part of the Newark half-marathon race course is shortly due to close for work.

The expected time taken to complete the work's progress is nine months and due to this the Newark race will not take place this year.

Instead, the race is planned to feature a virtual event and details will be made clear in the future.

The all-clubs run gave all three Newark running clubs a chance to join as a group, and run together along the route.

“This is not the end of the Half-marathon as we have organised a virtual run for the traditional Sunday in August when a thousand runners usually take part each year,” said organiser Peter Davis. “Over the weekend of August 10 and 11, if you run a half marathon distance and record it on an app or watch you will have completed the race.

“This means you will get a medal and recognition of completion.

”Details of how to enter and complete the run are on the Newark Half Marathon website.

“We will be raising money for local charities, as in the past.

“We did not want to lose the opportunity this year.

“You can run for our linked charities or find one yourself.

“Each year we raise several thousand pounds for charities and those needing help such as schools and our local parkrun.

“You can complete the half marathon by doing several shorter runs or all in one run.

“This is a great chance to run with friends and family, feel good, and help others.”
