Newark AC athletes take part in opening round of the North Midlands Cross Country League at Markeaton Park in Derby




The first of four North Midlands Cross Country League rounds took place at Markeaton Park in Derby on Saturday.

Newark AC’s Amber Owens was 21st in the 6km senior ladies’ race, timing 27min56sec in her first race back since injury.

The men’s race was 10k in distance and in-form Ed Buck finished second, Will Tucker 12th, Dan Dunnington 41st, under-20 Joseph Monk was 45th in his first cross-country race at this distance.

Also competing were Leigh Marshall 59th, Rob Lindsay 61st, Lewis Hopkinson 66th, Tim Bagguley 70th, Ady Dix 87th, Simon Roberts 131st, Lee Braithwaite 140th, Gareth Owens 158th and Tom Braithwaite 163rd. It leaves Newark fifth in the team standings.

The next round takes place on November 9 at West Glebe Park in Corby.

Newark AC were represented on Sunday in the Great Eastern Run, a half marathon in Peterborough.

A fast course with ideal conditions saw personal best broken all around. Conor Pacey finished sixth in 68.09, Marcus Chesterton was 28th in 70.39 and Ben Pearson timed 75.47 for 74th place.
