Anglers bask in summer warmth

The warm sunny weather in May guarantees spawning fish but despite the carp thrashing around there were still some good catches made.

Portland Fishery was popular on Saturday with Newark WMC fishing on Long Island.

Jamie Booth won, fishing pole and meat on peg 18 for 75-8-0, and in second was David Parkinson on peg two, fishing the pellet waggler for 69-13-0.

In third was Kev Blore, fishing with meat and prawns on the pole on peg 12 for 65-4-0, and fourth was Mike Cliff with 53-2-0, fishing meat and pole on peg 13.

On Sunday, Southwell AC fished on Old Wood Lake and Liam Cooper made it a five timer for this season, fishing a pellet waggler on peg nine for an all-chub catch of 68-5-0.

Runner-up was Phil Wagstaff on peg 18, fishing meat on the pole for 44-10-0 of carp and third was Fred Cooper on peg three, also fishing pellet waggler for 39-10-0 of chub.

Keith Harbord was fourth with 38-7-0, Bob Twitchell fifth with 36-7-0 and Dick Stubbs sixth with 31-4-0.

New Inn fished on Canal and Simon Curtis made it a four timer in the 22 peg match.Fishing pellet or maggot shallow on peg ten, he had 106-10-0 of carp.

In second was Steve Baker, fishing paste on peg 25 with 83-4-0, and third was Mark Liwoshko on peg two, fishing meat shallow down the edge for 65-5-0. Nigel Lale was fourth with 63-9-0, fifth was Daz Neal with 62-9-0 and sixth Mick Warner with 60-3-0.

Malc Nicholson fell into Centenary Lake at Collingham, to much amusement of onlookers.

There was a tight finish on Willow with Howard Langley again on his record-breaking peg18. Fishing waggler and maggot, he weighed 100-5-0.

On peg 30, Darren Harston, fishing feeder, meat and dumb bell pellets, weighed 99-4-0. Keith Archer on peg ten fished feeder and meat for 76-0-0 while top weight on Centenary was Jason Jeal on peg 19 with 57-0-0 on feeder and pellet. Brian Clark on peg 20 was fifth with 56-9-0 and Roy Baldwin was sixth with 54-12-0.

Railway Club fished on the match pool at Girton Mill Dam where the winner was Chris Young, fishing pole and corn down the edge on peg four with 118-11-0.

Martin Farrell was second on peg 12, again fishing down the edge with meat and corn for 77-6-0, and in third was Graham Bramberry on peg 18, fishing feeder and pellet for 64-4-0. Keith Mayfield was fourth with 63-13-0 fishing corn down the edge on peg 15.
