Angling Lines: A close battle on the Trent
Nineteen turned out for Collingham’s annual float match held once again on the River Trent at Rolleston.
There was a close battle for first place, but Wayne Smith came out on top from peg 33 with 12-14lb consisting mainly of roach on the stick and waggler.
Second was Ced Baldwin with 12-13 from peg 29, all on stick float.
Third went to Ian Sparrow from peg 31 with 11-01 on the waggler while joint fourth wwere Kenny Clark on peg 19 and Neil Fisher peg five with 8-09, both catching on the waggler.
Next week: The Sheldon Trophy match on the river.
Southwell AC fished at Portland on Long Island on Sunday.
Liam Cooper fished pellet waggler for the number one spot, catching carp from 4lb to 5lb and finishing the match on corn down the margin to net 101-5.
Second went to Ron Martin with 80-12. Ron started on the tip and towards the end of the match went in to the margin. All his fish were caught on dead maggot.
Third was Richard Stubbs with 76-5, followed by Fred Cooper in fourth with 62-14, Roy Gregory in fifth with 58-3 and Phil Wagstaff in sixth with 55-5.
It was an enjoyable day with everyone catching, despite the mixed weather.

Winner of Newark Working Men’s Club Sunday match was Kev Blore on peg 30 with 200-11.
Second was Dave Parkinson with 183-4 from peg 31, Darren Neal was third with 171lb.1oz on peg eight, and fourth wasMark Neal on peg 22 with 160-17.
This week: Mill Dam old lake.
Martin Pestell’s open match was at Mill Dam on the old lake where there was a great turnout of 22 anglers.
With bad weather until the early afternoon, pegging was a bit tighter than usual but on this particular lake it never seems to have much of an impact and the fish still move freely.
Despite the conditions, the lake still fished well.
First, on peg 29, was John Sanderson with 128-04, followed by second by Andy Szuchpak with 121-04 from peg 30.
Dean Senkiw was third on peg 25 with 107-13. Kevin Wakefield was fourth on peg 12 with 95-10, Colin Spencer was fifth with 90-12 from peg 14 and Tony Mills was sixth on peg one with 90-02.
