Angling Lines: Paul unlocks key to winning club match

There was a better turnout for Grove Angling Club’s match at Balderton Lake on Sunday, with 20 members taking part and all choosing to fish the feeder.

Winner Paul Locke used dead reds and worm for 37lbs 6ozs on peg 26.

Runner-up Ian Helsdown caught 31-12 on peg seven. Third-placed Dom Roche used corn to take 31-09 on peg 26.

Joe Flannagan landed 12-0 for fourth place on peg 50 and Andy Dobbie, on peg 29, used corn for his 10-01 that earned fifth place.

Southwell AC's match at Fox Covert Fishery, Laneham, was fished over 13 pegs.

The top three anglers all used dead maggot. Winner Richard Wagstaff, who landed 75-01, started on the top, but soon went down the edge with dead reds.

Runner-up Ken Martin (68-2) and third-placed Fred Cooper (57-7) followed the same method.

Other leading weights were: Ron Martin (49-3) Richard Stubbs (41-8) and Phil Wagstaff (39-7).

Southwell’s next match is at Candy Corner Fisheries, Finningley, on Sunday.
