Newark Castle Archers joins to Archery GB to offer sprinting archery taster sessions
The town’s biggest archery club are the the first in the county to hold taster sessions of sprinting archery.
Newark Castle Archers, together with Archery GB, held Run-Archery sessions over the weekend.
Mandie Elson, pictured with Arran Coggan, director of participation at Archery GB, were among those who took part.
In total, nine archers from Whitby, Keyworth, Derby, Birmingham and Newark competed in the sprint version of running archery.
The sport sees contestants run 400m followed by shooting at four small targets with six arrows.
If you miss the target you receive a penalty of 60 metres per missed arrow ahead of the next run.
You then run a second 400m and repeat the shooting, though this time you should kneel on one leg when shooting.
Contestants then run a final 400m to finish.
The event is about recording a faster time, rather than hitting a score.
The sessions are to take place at other clubs around the county.
Running clubs have been welcomed to get in touch with Mandie Elson, chairman of Newark Castle Archers, to get involved.
