Nathan Arnold targets league and cup double as his Newark Town side gear up for Retford United test in the Notts Senior Trophy final
Newark Town have the chance to seal a historic league and cup double tonight (Tuesday, May 10).
The Blues, who clinched the Central Midlands Football League Premier Division North title on Saturday, quickly return to action as they clash with Retford United in the Notts Senior Trophy final at Basford United's Greenwich Avenue (7.45pm kick-off).
Town boss Nathan Arnold said he expected his players to be ready for the task at hand having failed to beat Retford United across three games this season.
With such a quick turn around before the game, Arnold revealed centre-half James Gardner would be unlikely to feature having picked up a back injury at Glapwell on Saturday.
However, he said he was well covered in that area of the pitch and expected to travel with a near to full strength matchday squad.
"We are over the line in the league, but I have made it clear that I want to finish the season with a win," said Arnold.
"All season we have celebrated our wins and it has been important for us to celebrate our success as we go along.
"If you start fixating on a destination, you don't enjoy the journey, so all season we have been celebrating and then focussing on the next game."
He said it would be no different on this occasion with his players hungry for further silverware.
"The team deserved their moment on Saturday," said Arnold.
"And they are professional enough to pick themselves up and focus, and with it being against Retford, the respect going into the game will be their naturally too.
"But the pressure is off us now, so we can go out there, enjoy it and, hopefully, play our best football without that added pressure."
