Ballard pulls out all stops
Will Ballard was the star of the show with four out of Newark Swimming Club’s 20 first places at the Development Gala at Bramcote.
Ballard got first touch in the 12-13 years 25m butterfly in a personal best time of 14.84secs and then added victories in the 50m breaststroke (40.90secs) the 25m backstroke (17.11secs, pb) and the 50m freestyle (31.45 secs).
George Mumby had a hat-trick of victories, all in personal best times. He had wins in the 10-11 years 50m breaststroke (51.00secs) the 25m backstroke (20.69secs) and the 50m freestyle (41.41secs).
As well as the 20 first places, the Newark swimmers also recorded 33 personal best times at the gala.

There were some good results from the Newark competitors at the Midlands Age-group Championships at Coventry, with Joshua Barker the pick with three top ten finishes in his first championships.
Ruth Money also produced a superb personal best time in the 200m freestyle, as did Ben Palmer in the 100m freestyle.
Lewis Illsley also swam in the championships for the first time, having just come back from holiday, and therefore not having trained for two weeks.

Jamie Scott performed brilliantly to win the BLDSA
Wykeham Lakes senior two-mile swim at swim at Scarborough in a time of 45mins 51 secs. Louise Orgill was fifth in the senior 5K in 1hr 36mins 56secs.
