Wheelchair tennis ace David Phillipson powered through to the second round of the Nottingham Indoor Wheelchair Tennis Open with a comprehensive victory.

Phillipson, of Bingham, won in straight sets 6-0 6-0 to defeat fellow Briton Steve Crompton on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old British No 3, who last year reached the semi-final of the ITF Series 1 event, next faces sixth seed Tom Egberink of the Netherlands later today.

He is looking to continue a stunning run of form which saw him reach three doubles and three singles finals in the United States recently.

Even after returning to the United Kingdom with two doubles crowns, the two-time Paralympian insists there is more to come after completing his campaign abroad with a career-best sixth place finish at the UNIQLO Doubles Masters, alongside Marc McCarroll.

He said: "I did well in California so I'm looking forward to a good result here.

"I have semis to defend, so it will be tough here but I'd like to achieve that or maybe beat that this time."
