Brilliant Ballard sets the pace
William Ballard produced some fine performances for Newark Swimming Club at the final round of the Autumn Minor Gala League at Hucknall to help the club to second place.
Newark’s swimmers achieved a total of ten first places and 11 new personal best times, with Ballard getting first touch in the 12-and-under 50m butterfly in a time of 35.82secs and posting new best times in the 100m individual medley (1min 17.34secs) and the 50m breaststroke (39.87secs).
There were also double individual wins for Millie Bowes- Hall (11-and-under 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle) Ruth Money (11-and-under 100m individual medley and 2x50m backstroke/breaststroke) and Olivia Mathias (10- years 50m backstroke and 25m butterfly) and an individual win for Lewis Illsley in the 10-year 50m backstroke.
There were also wins for the boys’ 9-years medley relay team of Elliot Snaith, Matt Stevens, Lewis Illsley and George Mumby, and for the girls’ 11- years freestyle relay team of Millie Bowes-Hall, Olivia Mathias, Grace Gourley and Ruth Money.
Other personal best times were set by Grace Gourley (12-and-under 50m freestyle and 11-and-under 50m butterfly) and Lewis Illsley (10-years 50m backstroke and 11-years 50m backstroke).
Illsley managed to shave nearly 11/2 seconds off his 50m personal best in the backstroke and then, just ten minutes later, did the same distance again and took a further quarter of a second off the time once more to set another new best.
