Former professional cricketer Paul Johnson was the guest speaker at Caunton Cricket Club’s awards evening which celebrated several achievements including promotion to Division E of the South Notts League




Former professional cricketer Paul Johnson was the guest speaker at Caunton Cricket Club’s awards evening which was held at the Plough Inn.

Members of the club and their families gathered together for the event which was held on Saturday, (March 2).

Johnson, who was the former captain of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club spoke about his player career and his current role as academy coach at Leicestershire.

During a successful 2023 campaign Caunton remained undefeated during the Newark Evening League season, winning the Division One title and also the Owen Taylor Cup.

The club’s Saturday first XI also secured promotion up to Division E of the South Notts League.

The player of the Year was awarded to Sam Wagstaff, who captained the midweek side and was also the leading batter for his team.

Andrew Rose won the Saturday League batting and bowling awards, while Jamie Barlas won the ‘Duck of the Year’ prize.

John Michael, the Club President, congratulated all involved on a successful year on the pitch and thanked the committee and the volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure that the ground and pavilion survived the worst of the autumn floods.

Cricketers from the club will now be hoping for an equally successful season in their next campaign.
